A FEW EXAMPLES OF EXTREME SERVICE AWARDS

to Nurses at MHS

Thomas Daniels, LVN, MICU, Northeast Methodist Hospital, is recognized by his night shift co-workers for coming up with pre-printed forms with cardiology protocols and pre-printed orders, expediting admisssions and contributing to faster and error-free transcriptions.

Kathy Martinez, RN, Labor and Delivery, Methodist Children's Hospital, showed quick thinking and action, saving a baby's life.  A physician noted that her astuteness at diagnoising an acute situation was impressive.

Maggie Reyes, RN with the Oncology Department at Methodist Hospital, brought a cat-lover leukemia patient a special gift (cat pillowcase) to cheer her.

Eva Rodriguez, RN, pediatric specialist, Methodist Children's Hospital, offered her services as a translator to explain to a family that their child, a bone marrow transplant patient in the PICU, was dying.  Her nomination recognized her intense compassion, crying with the family and sharing their grief.

Gloria Streib, RN, Post Anesthesia Recovery Room, Methodist Hospital, had just finished her shift when she saw a need for nursing assistance on 4-West and spontaneously volunteered to help.

Many other nurses, as well as other hospital employees,  have been honored for their deeds and services that go beyond their "job description".   These awards are publicized in the System wide newsletter "InSites", distributed to all employees.
